We are very pleased to say he is free of the rectal cancer, however we are sadden to say that something else now is happening with his liver. His team was very pleased at his results of the 5FU. He felt his worst probably during weeks 3-4 but seemed to decline on week 5 and then week 6 rolled around and he was DONE! he recovered, became stronger again b/t April and July 1 which is when he had he surgery to remove the VERY shrunken tumor mass. He ended up getting off the research study b/c it made his liver counts decline. I know there was only one dinner he passed on b/c he said the smell made he nauseous but did not get sick. He was on a research study taking pills and had to eat breakfast on them. Because of the location of his cancer, he did not lose hair on his head, and thanking God he never had any vomiting although he said there were times that he felt more nauseous. His weight loss looks good on him, not that he was fat. He was about 185 and is now down to about 168 a year later and hangs steady there. Now, for how he felt on 5FU - he was always COLD. After we got home on Mondays our home hlth care nurse would come to the house to hook him up for chemo and unhook every Saturday. We never missed a rad treatment which were at 7:30AM Monday thru Friday. His treatments began on Monday March 11 and ended (YAHOO!) on Wednesday April 17. After putting our team together, meeting them all, and settling on a course of action, he too has (still) his power port in because he did 28 consecutive days of simultaneous radiation and 5FU infused chemo. With you by his side, I am sure he will work through his treatments as best you & he can.Įxactly one year ago just last Wednesday my husband was diagnosed with stage 2 rectal cancer. Good morning Ms Misti, first let me say how sorry I am to read of your dear Dad. Just let him rest and control any nausea feelings, Bless you both. So watch very carefully for any sign Ts of blood clots. My oncologist put me on Coumadin for the rest of my treatments and for six weeks after. Went to the ER, had an ultrasoud, and they werenot internal. I got really bad blood clots in my left leg which I thought were just cramps until I felt them. God Bless.Įdit No, I was never hospitalized. I wish your Father all the best in his chemo, and that he will be well again. You can look these regimens up on the internet also.įorgoet to say I couln't drink cold water or touch cold things the first few days of each treatment. I donot know if I answered all your questions, so please post me back here if I didn't. I don't know if it stronger than your Father's first chemo, just maybe different drugs. The chemo would make my face and nose extremely cold for the first day, also my thighs.I didn t have much of an appetite either. That was in September, gradually getting better, I am taking a vitamin B complex and and methyl cobolonal so. They decreased the Oxaliplatin but by then it was too late. Each time my oncologist would ask if I felt any neuropathy, which I didnot, until the very last treatment, and it started. This can give him neuropathy, which I have in hands and feet and legs. They should be aware of this, definitely discuss it with the doctor because the dose can be decreased to help with this. The one I want to warn you about is the Oxaliplatin. They then attached a pump that was in a little bag and I would go home with it, come back the next day, get chemo, repeat it, come back the next day and it would be removed. Then I would receive chemo for two and a half hours, one part consisted of a drug for nausea each time. Your Father may already have this, if not, I strongly advise it. A simple procedure, and I had it removed when I was done completely. They could put the chemo line in through this. To make it much easier, I had a port put in my upper chest region. I would go to the oncology center and they always drew my blood to check the counts first. I would take Zofran for the nausea feeling. No, I didn't really get sick, some nausea feelings tiredness. Mistri, following colon cancer, early stage, in 2012, my oncologist put me on a FOXFOL regimen.twelve treatments for about six months.
